Fremantle Prison Heritage Precinct Master Plan

Project Update 1 July 2002

The project has been put in place by the State Government to recognise the importance of this State, national and international icon, and to guide the future use of the site.

The aim of the Masterplan is to produce an integrated framework that can be used to guide and set realistic priorities for future use and development of the Prison, including conservation, interpretation, commercial enterprise, tourism, landscape and maintenance.

Palassis Architects, in conjunction with The Planning Group, Arbor Vitae, Tourism Coordinates and Helen Grzyb and Associates, have been appointed to undertake the plan. The masterplanning process will include consultation with stakeholders and the community over the next nine months and the development of both draft and final Masterplans. The first stage of this process is about to commence, with opportunities for interested people to get involved in the study through focus groups and written submissions.
