ACCESSIBILITY AND INCLUSION PLAN
The Fremantle Prison Accessibility and Inclusion Plan has been developed in consultation with disability consultants and people who have lived experience of disability. This plan guides how we can enhance the accessibility and inclusiveness of our tours, events, buildings, and information. It also informs our feedback processes, as well as employment and volunteering opportunities, for people with disabilities.

PHYSICAL ACCESSIBILITY
Fremantle Prison is a historical site which presents many challenges relating to providing universal physical access. Challenges include:
- Uneven surfaces
- Small doorways
- Raised doorway thresholds; and
- Stairs (three levels)
Wheelchair access
Two wheelchairs are available for use free of charge from the ticket office located at the main entrance. Call (08) 9336 9200 to check availability.
There is wheelchair access to the exhibition galleries, shop, grounds and café internally and externally. A lift provides access to the basement level Commissariat.
Wheelchair access to upper levels of cell blocks is not available.
Wheelchair accessibility for each tour is identified as:
- Convict Prison - 10%
This tour involves a number of stairs and is not recommended for those with mobility issues - Behind Bars - 90%
- True Crime - Approximately 80%
- Torchlight Tour - 90%
- Tunnels Tour - Not accessible
This tour involves descending 20 metres below the prison and is not accessible by wheelchair
PREPARING FOR YOUR VISIT
Guide and assistance dogs
Fremantle Prison welcomes guide and assistance dogs with full access rights. Dogs must be clearly identifiable with relevant harness and jacket.
PARKING OPTIONS
A paid car park catering for over 60 vehicles is located directly outside Fremantle Prison, The Terrace via Fothergill Street. Another large paid car park is located at the bottom of Fairbairn Ramp, accessible via Parry Street.
Two coach bays are located directly outside the Prison, with another two located on Parry Street.
There are two ACROD parking bays located in City of Fremantle car park #29 (The Terrace) and three located in City of Fremantle car park #1 (Parry St).
Both car parks are managed by the City of Fremantle and parking fees apply.
We recommend a minimum of three hours parking for your visit to the Prison.
